"Joe was great, we had an excellent time and caught a lot of fish. Would highly recommend!" - Tristan
"We have been fishing charters in Florida for over 20 years. Some good, some bad. Fishing with Joe was hands down the most fun, most successful trip including a 36" Snook my gf caught. It was a full service charter, he is very knowledgeable, patient, and willing to move to find the fish. He was low stress and he made everyone comfortable as we had beginners to experienced anglers with us. We will definitely be fishing with him again. Not just the catch, but it was the best charter I have been on all around." - Regan
"Captain Joe was great, like most reviews say, fishing with him is like fishing with a buddy you've known a lifetime. My wife and I had a great time, caught a bunch of fish and will be back in the future!" - James
Gag Grouper: These bruisers are the heavyweight champs of Tampa Bay. Gags love structure, so we'll be hitting reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottoms. They put up a serious fight, often trying to dive back into their hidey-holes. Spring and fall are prime times for gags, and there's nothing like the pull of a 20-pounder testing your arms and your gear.
Black Sea Bass: Don't let their size fool you – these little fighters punch above their weight class. You'll find them hanging around similar spots to grouper, often in slightly shallower water. They're a year-round target and make for some fantastic eating. Kids especially love catching these scrappy fish, as they're usually eager to bite and put up a fun fight on light tackle.
Snook: The smartest fish in the bay, snook are the ultimate prize for many anglers. These silver ghosts are masters of ambush, often lurking around mangroves, docks, and bridge pilings. Spring and summer are your best bet for snook, especially during the spawn when big females move into the passes. Landing a trophy snook is a true test of skill and patience – are you up for the challenge?
Sea Trout: Also known as speckled trout, these spotted beauties are a Tampa Bay staple. They love grass flats and deeper holes, especially early in the morning or on incoming tides. Trout are great for both beginners and pros alike, as they're often willing biters and put on an acrobatic show when hooked. Fall and winter are prime trout seasons, but you can catch them year-round with the right techniques.
Redfish: With their copper color and black spot, redfish are unmistakable. These bulldogs of the flats can be found tailing in shallow water or hanging around oyster bars. They're known for their powerful runs and delicious taste. While you can catch reds all year, fall is particularly exciting as schools of big bull reds move into the bay. Sight-fishing for tailing reds is an adrenaline rush like no other – it's you versus the fish in a game of stealth and precision.

We had a wonderful time with Captain Joe Masi. He is a very knowledgable fisherman and local to the St. Pete area. He worked very hard to get us on the fish for the weather conditions that we had. I would definitely recommend Joe and use him in the future!

Black Sea Bass are feisty little battlers that pack a punch for their size. You'll find them around jetties, piers and reefs in 60-120 feet of water. Most run 1-4 pounds, but bigger ones push 8 pounds. They're active year-round but fishing heats up in late spring through summer. Sea bass hit hard and fight all the way to the boat. Anglers love their aggressive bite and delicious white fillets. To catch them, use light tackle with small hooks. Squid strips or cut bait work well. A cool trick is to use a small jig tipped with bait - the flash really gets their attention. When you feel that telltale thump, set the hook quick. These guys have small mouths but big appetites.
Gag Grouper are tough fighters that love structure. They typically hang around rocky bottoms, reefs, and wrecks in 60-250 feet of water. Adults average 2-3 feet long and 10-30 pounds. Spring and fall are prime seasons, when water temps are in the 70s. Gags put up a stubborn battle, using their strength to dive for cover. Anglers love the challenge and tasty white meat. To land one, use heavy tackle and get them away from structure fast. Live bait like pinfish works great, but large jigs can also entice a bite. Keep your drag tight - these guys will try to break you off in a heartbeat. It's all about quick reflexes and muscle when a big gag hits.
Redfish are one of Tampa's most popular inshore targets. These bronze bruisers patrol shallow flats and mangrove shorelines in 1-4 feet of water. Most run 5-10 pounds, but bull reds over 20 pounds show up in fall. Spring and fall are prime, when water temps are in the 70s. Redfish are known for powerful runs and their distinctive tail spot. Anglers love sight-fishing for tailing reds and their excellent table fare. To catch them, use medium tackle and be stealthy. Live bait like pinfish or cut mullet works great. For artificials, gold spoons or weedless soft plastics are top choices. Here's a local trick: fish the last hour of the falling tide around oyster bars. The reds will be there to ambush bait getting flushed off the flats.
Sea Trout are a Tampa Bay staple. These speckled beauties cruise grass flats and channels in 3-6 feet of water. Most run 1-3 pounds, but gator trout over 5 pounds aren't uncommon. Spring and fall are peak seasons when water temps are in the 70s. Trout are known for their soft mouths and tendency to shake hooks. Anglers love sight-casting to them and their delicate flavor. To catch them, use light tackle and a delicate touch. Live shrimp under a popping cork is hard to beat. For artificials, soft plastics or small topwaters work well. Here's a pro tip: fish early mornings over grass flats with good tidal flow. The trout will be up feeding and you can often see them swirling on bait. Cast ahead of the movement and hold on.
Snook are one of Tampa Bay's prize catches. These wily predators hang in mangroves, under docks, and along seawalls. Most run 5-15 pounds, but trophy fish over 30 pounds aren't unheard of. Spring and fall are prime, when water temps are in the 70s. Snook are famous for explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps. Anglers love their fight and challenge - they're not called "linesiders" for nothing. To land one, use stout tackle and be ready to muscle them away from cover. Live bait like pinfish or pilchards is deadly. For artificials, walk-the-dog topwaters or soft plastics work great. Here's a local tip: fish the outgoing tide around dock lights at night. The snook will stack up to ambush bait getting flushed out of the backcountry.
